SmartSip uses innovative color changing chemistry to alert its users. Once any part of SmartSip comes in contact with either Ketamine, GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate), or Rohypnol (nicknamed “roofies”), the straw undergoes a chain chemical reaction that transforms the entire straw. Our straw is still in development—we are currently working on the Ketamine reaction/color transformation.

Unlike other products that only change color when in direct contact with a harmful drug, the entirety of SmartSip’s straws turn a noticeable dark blue when ANY PART of it detects one of these drugs. So even if you just dip the tip of the straw in your spiked drink, the full straw will change color, making the drug’s presence obvious.

Moreover, unlike most competitor testing devices, SmartSip’s straws are reusable until they come in contact with a date-rape drug. So you shouldn’t have to worry about purchasing a straw before every party. Just slip it in a purse or pocket and pop it into whatever drink you wish!
